I was born and raised in Belgium and moved to Texas as a pre-teen, an experience I believe to have enriched my understanding of cultural diversity and ability to practice empathy for others no matter their background. I quickly fell in with the opportunity to connect with others, which is what drew me to counseling. I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Baylor University in 2015 and my Master of Science in Counseling from Southern Methodist University in 2020. I have also co-authored a 2021 publication in the Journal of Affective Disorders on psychosocial interventions for perinatal women with bipolar disorder (link below).
I specialize in treating mood disorders, emotion regulation and interpersonal issues, with a particular focus on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) informed skills and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I enjoy incorporating mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques in the therapy session. It is my firm belief, however, that therapy is to be tailored to each individual's unique needs. Therefore, I strive to be as collaborative as possible in creating a treatment plan to achieve your therapy goals.
Through my experience as a case manager for the homeless in Dallas and later my experience at a private practice specializing in addiction, it is my belief that the difficulties that we face stem from our inner dialogue and extreme responses in acknowledgment to triggering situations.
It is my goal to help the client explore such thoughts and reactions by developing coping skills and new ways of thinking in order for the client to feel more at ease and happier in life.
